What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry refers to dental procedures where the patient is sedated using various methods to ensure a quick and pain-free dental procedure.   With Sedation Dentistry, you will be able to communicate with our dental team but will be care free of the sounds, smells and time it may take to complete treatment.  Sedation allows allows Dr. George and Dr. Allen to treat multiple areas of decay or provide restorative treatment without being fearful.

Types of Sedation Dentistry

At Townesquare Dental, we have a couple of different options to make your visit more comfortable:

  • Oral Sedation – Oral Sedation involves the use of an oral sedative pill to reduce anxiety.  Oral sedation in dentistry uses pills, known as benzodiazepines or “benzos.” These pills are crushed up and placed under your tongue prior to treatment. They are very safe to use and very helpful at helping you relax, be comfortable, and maybe even sleep during your treatment. Although you are able to respond and effectively answer questions during treatment, you most likely will not remember anything about the procedures later on. Dr. George and Dr. Allen believe that oral sedation can be very helpful for many of their patients. Oral sedation is safe and very effective! Dr. George and Dr. Allen have received extensive training in oral sedation and they will ensure you the highest quality of care during your appointment.
  • Nitrous Sedation – Also known as “laughing gas”, nitrous oxide is administered using a mask on the patient’s face. The use of nitrous sedation helps you to relax while remaining co-operative.  Nitrous sedation is preferred for mild to moderate anxieties and wears off quickly so you can resume your activities shortly after the procedure.

Dental anxiety should not prevent anyone from having a perfect, healthy smile.  Contact Townesquare Dental to learn more about sedation dentistry in Rigby and how it can be used to make your dental treatments easier and more comfortable.
